Norway’s Constitution Day
“Hipp hipp hurra!” 🇳🇴🎉
Today, 17 May, is Norway’s Constitution Day (“Syttende Mai”) — the biggest celebration of the year in Oslo. 🇳🇴
Here’s what’s happening in Oslo today:
- The famous children’s parade (“Barnetoget”) starts at 10:00 from Akershus Fortress and passes the Royal Palace, where the royal family traditionally waves from the balcony.
- Most shops are closed, but cafés, restaurants, bars, and many outdoor events are open.
- Public transport runs heavily, but central Oslo is crowded and partially closed to cars. Ruter recommends using public transport and avoiding Nationaltheatret station if possible.
- Weather in Oslo today is expected to be classic “bunad weather”: cool with possible sunshine later in the day.
